It all starts with a sketch or photo that is refined digitally and printed out on a special, transparent foil. The black ink of this film blocks the light when the screens coated with a light-sensitive emulsion are exposed to UV.
The frames have a fine mesh stretched over them that is made impermeable with emulsion. When the screen is washed out after exposing, the areas of the design clean up and leave the stencil ready for printing.
The water-based ink is pushed across the screen with a squeegee, twice for all dark fabrics. It goes through the open mesh of the design and is heat-seat after drying so that the textiles can be washed.
